A note about my YA Historical Fiction Challenge 2011

Soon after I published my post about my YA historical fiction challenge, one of my readers kindly contacted me to tell me that Sabrina from YA Bliss had the same idea as me and posted a few hours earlier. Even though we both thought of the idea independently as I thought of the idea back in the summer when I first started this blog, to be fair to her and to avoid it looking like a copy-cat situation I have decided to still  keep my challenge running but not promote it.

Sabrina will be holding some giveaways related to the challenge so you might want to have a look at the link to her challenge post above. I am so glad that a wonderful genre that never used to be very popular has grown enough to have 2 people think of the same challenge!

Thank you so much to the people who signed up for my challenge and posted about it, you are very welcome to carry on with it and I would love to know how you do with it.
I still want to promote YA historical fiction though so I am currently working on some ideas for another event. I will keep you posted!

Jane Austen Challenge 2010- late but better than not at all

When I noticed that Anne Bennett from Head Full of Books was taking part in the Jane Austen Challenge held at The Life and Lies of an Inanimate Flying Object, I couldn't resist being a late joiner either!

I'm a Jane Austen newbie so I thought this would be a good challenge to introduce me to her novels, which I have out from my school library over the summer amongst all my other books. To complete any level on the challenge, I also have to read too Jane Austen rewrites, prequels, sequels and spoofs.

The levels and rules are:

--Anyone can participate.Sign up here:

--Levels:

**Newbie 2 books by J. Austen, 2 re-writes, prequels, sequels, or spoofs (by other authors)
**Lover 4 books by J. Austen, 4 re-writes, prequels, sequels, or spoofs (by other authors)
** Fanatic 6+ books by J. Austen, 5+ re-writes, prequels, sequels, or spoofs (by other authors)

--Challenge books can overlap with other challenges.

Given the late stage of the year, I am going to aim for the 'newbie' level and the books that I am picking are:
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • Emma
  • I was Jane Austen's Best Friend (already read and reviewed)
  • Lydia Bennett's Story (a sequel to Pride and Prejudice

Reading Challenges Summer 2010

After looking around at other people's book blogs, I noticed that many were taking part in reading challenges so I decided to take a look at them and decide which ones I would like to participate in. I have decided to join one as unfortunately I do not have as much time to read this summer as I would like:

Historical Fiction Challenge 2010

I love this challenge button!
This challenge is held by Royal Reviews with help from Alaine at Queen of Happy Endings from 1st January 2010 to the end of December so there is still plenty of time left. As you can tell from my reviews, I read a lot of historical fiction books normally so it would be nice to recognise this by taking part in the challenge and finding out about more hf through other bloggers taking part.

There are 4 levels to this challenge:

-- Curious – Read 3 Historical Fiction novels.

- Fascinated – Read 6 Historical Fiction novels.
-- Addicted – Read 12 Historical Fiction novels.

-- Obsessed – Read 20 Historical Fiction novels

I am just going to aim to read as many as I can in the time and see where I get to but if I counted all the hf books I've already read this year then I will have definitely reached Obsessed by Decemeber! Also, I am not going to list the novels I'm going to read in advance here as I do not know yet so I will update in my reviews of the hf books that I read and wrap up in a list in a post at the end of the challenge.

Here is the link to the challenge welcome post if you are thinking of joining in yourself, whether you are a book blogger or not:  For those of you are not inclined towards reading historical fiction there are other great challenges for a variety of genres listed there too.

Look out for more soon!
