Happy World Book Day!

You may or may not know that today is World Book Day, which is a wonderful chance for all us book lovers to join out fellow readers in celebrating everything to do with books! So I just want to wish all my lovely readers a happy World Book Day 2011 whatever they're doing :D

The day was originally set up by the charity World Book Day Ltd. and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.  If you'd like to find out some more about this special day, then you can visit their website here.

When I was in primary school, I used to love dressing up as my favourite book character with the rest of my classmates (I seem to remember I was Heidi from Heidi by Johanna Spyri) and children in the UK also get a £1 book voucher to go towards a full price book or one of the £1 books created especially for the event. There are lots of other ways to have fun celebrating books too from treating yourself a few new books in your local bookstore, visiting the library, reccommending a book to a friend, reading aloud with family or simply curling up before bed with your current or favourite read. When I've published this post, I'll be going off to read Dark Mirror by J.M Putney whilst relaxing in the bath.

So spread the word amongst other bloggers and have fun celebrating books! Are you doing anything to celebrate?

  1. Happy world book day to you, too :)

We did dressing up in school today and I was the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. I decorated the library as wonderland and we had a mad hatter's tea party, the children loved it.

I do know its reading-month. All the little kiddies get to read books all day and whatnot.

  7. Thanks for commenting on my survey results post! I totally agree, I really doubt the sci-fi/dystopian genre would have come in as the #1 second favourite several years ago, before dystopian went so big in YA.

And I keep meaning to tell you — I've become a Downton Abbey fan! That show is kind of addictive and there are so many well-known actors in it that I recognize from other films. It's great that I have another BBC show to watch now since Lark Rise to Candleford has ended, which I was really disappointed about :( Can't believe the first season of Downton Abbey only has 7 episodes though! Now we have to wait months for season 2...
