In My Mailbox - The 2 week addition 6/3/11

In My Mailbox is a meme hosted by the lovely Kristi at The Story Siren, where bloggers share all the books that have made themselves in their homes every week!

This is a mix up of the books I have got this week and last week (all summaries from Goodreads):

For review:

Belle's Song by K.M Grant (Thank you so much to Quercus Books UK for this one)

When Belle meets Luke, son of an alchemist and Scribe to the famous poet Chaucer, she is determined to travel with him to Canterbury on a pilgrimage. She hopes for a miracle: that her father will walk again. She also hopes to atone for her own part in his accident. It is a time of unrest across the country and the young King Richard II is just hanging on to his throne. A malign character on the pilgrimage suspects Chaucer of treason and slowly winds Belle into a political intrigue. At the same time, the impulsive Belle is drawn towards both Luke and to Walter, the wealthy son of a Knight. But Walter himself is in love with Luke...As the uprising against the King starts to draw pace and the web of intrigue around Belle and Chaucer tightens, Belle and her friends must risk everything to save their country and themselves...

I've actually been looking forward to this one since I started blogging because it was originally scheduled for release in September but then it got hold back until March so if you like the sound of it, then it's now released. I read it whilst I was on holiday for a few days and I hope to be able to post my review tomorrow if I get it done for then.

US ARC of Dark Mirror by M.J Putney (thank you very much to St Martins Griffin)

I did a Waiting on Wednesday post for this one a few weeks ago so I was very excited to be given the opportunity to review it. It took a while to be shipped from the US to the UK so it has now been released. I eagerly rushed through the door I'm currently reading this one and enjoying it.

Lady Victoria Mansfield, youngest daughter of the earl and countess of Fairmount, is destined for a charmed life. Soon she will be presented during the London season, where she can choose a mate worthy of her status.

Yet Tory has a shameful secret—a secret so powerful that, if exposed, it could strip her of her position and disgrace her family forever. Tory’s blood is tainted . . . by magic.
When a shocking accident forces Tory to demonstrate her despised skill, the secret she’s fought so hard to hide is revealed for all to see. She is immediately exiled to Lackland Abbey, a reform school for young men and women in her position. There she will learn to suppress her deplorable talents and maybe, if she’s one of the lucky ones, be able to return to society.
But Tory’s life is about to change forever. All that she’s ever known or considered important will be challenged. What lies ahead is only the beginning of a strange and wonderful journey into a world where destiny and magic come together, where true love and friendship find her, and where courage and strength of character are the only things that determine a young girl’s worth.

Other:

Three's A Crowd by Sophie Mckenzie

Luke and Eve are heading off on their first holiday together. But they're staying with Eve's dad in his Spanish hotel and he insists on treating Eve like she's still a little girl. If Luke was hoping for some hot summer action Eve's dad is certain to put a stop to it. Soon Luke and Eve are spending more time apart than together-with disastrous consequences....

I was browsing the supermarket shelves for a magazine to take on the journey to Yorkshire with me and I saw that one had this book for free with it so I knew I had to get it! I met Sophie Mckenzie about two years ago now when she came to my school for a visit and ate lunch with her but I haven't actually read her teenage romance books although I loved her other books Girl Missing and Blood Ties. So I'm glad to get the chance to read this one, even if it is the second in a series which I'm usually a bit wary about.

What did you get in your mailbox?

  4. Aw, I'm so glad you've been enjoying Lark Rise to Candleford! It's got a nice 'family' feel to it, and the characters are each so distinct. Plus it has both humour and emotional resonance...so sad that it's over now! :( Hope you enjoy the last couple seasons :)

And thanks very much for recommending Downton Abbey to me! I'd heard about it before then but I wasn't sure it was a show for me. But since you recommended it, I thought I'd give it a shot and soon enough I was hooked! Which is your favourite pairing in that one, by the way? I am rooting for Anna and Bates all the way, they are so cute together, LOL :D
